SOUTHBRIDGE, MA — Southbridge Public Schools has named Maria Ciavola as associate principal at Southbridge High School. Ms. Ciavola joined Southbridge in 2023 as an assistant principal after teaching science, mathematics and engineering in Wachusett and Worcester public school districts for 14 years, followed by a year as an assistant principal at Worcester East Middle School.
Prior to teaching, Ms. Ciavola served as youth programs manager at the Montachusett Opportunity Council.
Ms. Ciavola holds a Master of Education degree in school leadership and administration from Worcester State University, a Master of Education in middle school mathematics and science education from Fitchburg State University and a Bachelor of Science in natural science from Worcester State University.
“I came to Southbridge Public Schools motivated by the turnaround work that was happening here. I am proud to be part of the progress we have made at the high school, and I am committed to building on that progress as Associate Principal,” she said.
As associate principal, she hopes to focus on improving and refining the systems that support students on their path to graduation, including carefully curating schedules and programs of study, and collaborating with students’ families in their educational journey.
“I am excited to promote Maria Ciavola into this role, where her experience can provide a significant benefit to Southbridge High School students and help the district achieve our goal of giving every student the resources they need to succeed upon graduation,” said Receiver/Superintendent Jeffrey A.
